Gerard was born in Cairns and attended school locally at St Joseph's Primary School and St Mary's Catholic College for completion of his secondary studies. Gerard went on to tertiary studies at James Cook University in Townsville studying Computer Science / Computer Systems Engineering before moving to Brisbane to complete a Certificate IV in Audio Engineering in 1999.
Gerard went on to attend further studies at Queensland University of Technology completing his degree in Music majoring in Recording Production. With a view to furthering and continuing his education to a post graduate level Gerard enrolled at the University of Queensland completing a Masters of Clinical Audiology in 2003.
Gerard returned to Cairns in 2003 taking his first position in a private practice setting before starting the Cairns Audiology Group with his colleague Philippa Carter at the end of 2008.
Since that time Gerard has continued his work in private practice delivering much needed audiological services for the Far North Queensland region. Gerard has a special interest professionally in both ENT diagnostic audiological assessment and rehabilitative audiology. Given Gerard’s unique background with education and training in audio engineering prior to Audiology, this broad skill set is well refined to provide the highest quality of counselling and technical skill for optimisation of hearing aid fitting for Gerard’s clients.
Gerard’s current professional interests also extend to central auditory processing and auditory training, and aspects of occupational audiology including sound level assessment.
